Cosmos was launched in 2017 when it raised $17 million within 29 minutes of its ICO. Cosmos is termed as the ‘internet of Blockchains’ because it is creating a network of blockchain networks. The project aims to enable blockchains communicating with each other and solve blockchain interoperability issues. Cosmos has developed a full suite technology stack that provides developers all the necessary tools to create blockchains, dapps, and business models on Cosmos.
Cosmos platform is fully customizable and developers are free to create new blockchains with ease and flexibility. Data and tokens of one blockchain built on Cosmos can be shared with other blockchains via various open-source proprietary tools. Each blockchain network in Cosmos is called a Zone. Cosmos’s protocol monitors each and every blockchain and their states. New tokens can be issued on these zones with their independent logics and set of rules. Developers can upgrade these zones.
Cosmos hub is the central point of the entire network where all blockchains meet. Hub maintains the latest state of all the blockchains in the Cosmos ecosystem.
Cosmos is built on the Tendermint BFT engine which is the final or third layer of Cosmos. This layer is also responsible for validating transactions and adding blocks to the blockchain. The first layer is the Application layer which handles and processes all transactions. Second is the Network Layer which enables communications between blockchains.
