The Kava Network is a Layer-1 blockchain that combines the fast and scalable Cosmos SDK and the developer powerhouse of Ethereum. Kava aims to create the best network for web3 developers. It offers seamless interoperability between Ethereum and Cosmos and flexible Dapp deployment. Developers on Kava are empowered to create in the network environment of their choice. Kava is powered by the Tendermint Core consensus engine. It is a lightning-fast Byzantine Fault Tolerant consensus engine. With Tendermint Core, transactions are immediately finalized the moment they are included in a block. There is no need to wait for confirmation. Tendermint core was designed to support Proof-of-Stake systems. Tendermint offers unrivalled scalability and can support transactions of millions of users.
KAVA is the native token of the protocol. It's inflationary and doesn't have a set maximum supply of tokens. KAVA is integral to the system, with three main use cases: security, governance, and incentivizing development.
In Kava, nodes validate new blocks by a weighted bond stake in KAVA tokens. Validators are incentivized to run these nodes by earning KAVA as block rewards. They also earn a portion of the transactional fees on the network. Misbehaving validators run the risk of having their KAVA tokens slashed.
Kava is governed by a DAO which operates on a liquid democracy model. Members of the DAO make proposals and vote on them using their KAVA tokens. The DAO makes proposals not only on the main network itself but also on the Kava Network SAFU Fund and treasury allocation.
In terms of incentives, some KAVA tokens are distributed towards top projects on both chains. This encourages competition amongst developers and helps to grow and scale the network. This incentive distribution mechanism is open and transparent.
