THORChain is a cross-chain solution which provides a complete range of decentralized exchange services. THORChain is a liquidity protocol which connects multiple blockchain assets at a single marketplace using cross-chain bridges and liquidity pools. Using these bridges, users can swap multiple blockchain assets with each other.
THORChain’s liquidity pools are made with the combination of RUNE tokens and other assets. RUNE is the native token of THORChain’s ecosystem. RUNE token has a total supply of 500 million tokens.
THORChain is built with Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism on Tendermint. THORChain’s network is powered by ThornNode which also secure and oversee network data using Midguard APIs.
THORChain has two main participants - users and liquidity providers. Users use cross-chain swaps and pay fees for their trades. Liquidity providers add liquidity to various liquidity pools bound with RUNE token in separate vaults. These providers then earn rewards and fees on every swap which happens in listed bonded pairs.
These bonding of transactions, creation of vaults, and production of blocks after validating transactions are done by Nodes. Two-third of the network’s income are earned by these nodes. These nodes are created every 3 days, which then compete to enter with their stakes. Old nodes are eliminated and this way, network always stays fresh.
